5% ADDITIONAL DISCOUNT ON ONLINE, MOBILE PURCHASES FOR SENIORS AND PWD'S

The Department of Trade and industry is asking the Senior Citizens and Person's With Disabilities to take advantage of their additional 5% special discount for Basic Necessities and Prime Commodities (BNPC). The 5% additional discount is different from the regular 20% that they get from other goods and services.

The Joint Memorandum Circular No.01, series of 2022, titled "Guidelines on the Provision of the Mandatory Statutory Benefits and Privileges of the Senior Citizens and Persons with Disabilities on their Purchases through Online (e-commerce) and Phone Call/SMS," was released by DTI after the company made the statement on July 27, 2022.

According to DTI undersecretary Ruth B. Castelo, "These benefits and privileges under the aforementioned Circular, including the 5 percent discount on BNPC purchases, are meant to be used especially by Senior Citizens and Persons with Disabilities all year round, and not just during the pandemic." The law further stipulates that the money must be spent on at least four different BNPC products and must only be utilized for the elders' or PWDs' own usage.

The seller must be informed that qualified recipients are truly senior citizens or people with disabilities in order for them to receive the discount. They must provide supporting materials, such as the front and last pages of the purchase booklet, a digital copy or photo of their ID, in order to achieve this. The same paperwork must be presented when the products are delivered.
