Paoay Church - Ilocos Norte

Four years ago, we went to Ilocos Norte with my colleagues. We booked two days and a one-night tour. We paid around P2500 each (4 pax). From Quezon Ave, our pick-up time was at 11:00 pm, the van we took was spacious, and we were all seated comfortably. The driver was very nice and friendly to everyone. While travelling, I was awake the whole night because I was not used to sleeping whenever I went to new places. Even though I didn't see anything outside, I just enjoyed the night lights on the road.

It was raining when we arrived in Ilocos Norte because a typhoon was expected at that time. Our first stop was a food canteen near Paoay Church. We arrived around 6am, and we had our breakfast. That time, I ordered a meal with fried rice, native longganisa, and a cup of coffee. It was an affordable and satisfying meal. After our breakfast, we went to the church and took some photos. The church is beautiful inside and out. It looks old on the outside, but its foundation was built strong.

Also known as San Agustin Church. Inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1993

The church is bigger than Quiapo Church if I am not mistaken. The whole place was well maintained and clean. There were few locals at that time since it was still early, and there were rain showers. We also noticed the arrival of other tourists. There were a few of them which is why we were able to roam around the church and appreciate its beauty.

There are several stops around the church complex like the San Agustin Prayer Garden, the Old Convent which is the perfect backdrop for special events and other functions, the Arte Luna Art Gallery, and the Paseo de Paoay that has shops, restaurants, and exhibit halls.

Paoay Church is located at Marcos Ave, Paoay, Ilocos Norte. The Church is 45 minutes to an hour away from the bus terminal. Paoay Church is an indoor attraction and can be visited anytime of day.
